..and make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.1 Thessalonians 4: 11-12
When your life is spinning out of control and chaos is abounding and you lack peace, its probably time to take an inventory of what is really going on. Have you heard the expression “mind your own business” or “if its not in my hula-hoop it’s none of my business?” Is it your ambition to “live a quiet life”? I have found that sticking my nose in others business and offering unsolicited advice and criticism actually robs my joy and peace. Well scripture clearly tells us that if we strive to live a quiet life, minding our own business we will win the respect of others and will not be dependent on anybody. Did you know that prayer unlocks the doors of heaven so that thy Kingdom may come on earth as it is in heaven?
Dear Lord , we praise and worship you and thank you for your grace and forgiveness. So often we set our mind on things we need to hand to you and leave at the alter; yet we step in and try to fix instead. Lord continue to teach each one of us what it means to live a quiet life and to trust you when things seem out of control. Dear Lord help us to be quick to make amends when we criticize or put our nose in another’s business where it does not belong. Give us courage Lord to always go to our family or friends and admit when we have stepped over a boundary. Lord help us to set our hands to do the things you give us to do and give us peace knowing that it is your plan to win the respect of others and to only depend on you. Dear Lord, help us as well, to offer grace to others when they try to step into our “hula-hoop” and bring chaos into our peace. Give us words that build up instead of tear down. Teach us always that “as much as it is up to us to live at peace with everyone”. To you be the Lord forever.
In Jesus’ Name,
