FOR THE WORD OF GOD IS ALIVE AND ACTIVE; SHARPER THAN ANY DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD. IT PENETRATES EVEN TO DIVIDING SOUL AND SPIRIT, JOINTS AND MARROW; IT JUDGES THE THOUGHTS AND ATTITUDES OF THE HEART.Hebrews 4: 12
WHATEVER IS TRUE, WHATEVER IS NOBLE, WHATEVER IS RIGHT, WHATEVER IS PURE WHATEVER IS LOVELY, WHATEVER IS A ADMIRABLE–IF ANYTHING IS EXCELLENT OR PRAISEWORTHY–THINK ABOUT SUCH THINGS.Philippians 4: 8
What does it mean when the Bible says the Word of God is alive and active? What does it mean that it is like a double-edged sword and how does this apply to me? Several years ago I was at a retreat where one of the sessions was to pray God’s word inserting my name or others names for whom I was praying. For me, it brought the Word alive and personalized the intimate connection God desires for me. The Hebrews verse citing a double-edged sword means that the Word can divide fact from fiction, truth from lies and go deep into our soul where things are hidden. Do you want your prayers to be powerful and effective? Can you surrender your heart and your thoughts and desires to be conformed to His?
