The Greatest Commandment

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all they soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it; thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Matthew 22: 37-40 KJV

Do you look at the commandments as a mere set of rules of do this and don’t do that with a harsh punishment if you break one? Or do you consider them goals to strive for from a loving Father who desires the very best for us?  What does it mean for us to love God with all my heart, soul, and mind? Most of us like the smooth easy going way of life. As long as things run smoothly it is easy to love God. But where do we go when the slightest bump comes in the road? Does your” loving God with all your heart” go to fear and anxiety or does it stay steady on the path He has cleared for us even when we don’t see it?  My friends, the first 2 commandments are given to us by a loving God, whose desire is for us to gaze up to Him and out toward others. Though life’s circumstances and the enemies schemes distract us from these important principles, there is a way to maintain stability and focus.Prayer is the key that unlocks the doors of heaven so that thy kingdom will come on earth as it is in heaven.

Let’s Pray

Thank you God that in the beginning you called us the crown of your creation. We are royalty and with royalty comes responsibility. Thank you loving Father for giving us a standard to live by so that our lives can be full. Dear Lord teach us what it means to love you with all of our heart, soul and mind. Forgive us Lord when we stray away from the path of obedience when it is difficult or respond in ways that cause others to even wonder where we put our faith into. Help us Lord to begin our day acknowledging you as our “waymaker and promise keeper”  and when opportunities come throughout the day for us to walk more closely to you, we seize them with joy and expectation instead of fear and dread. Lord we lift to you those who are new in their walk and trust in you. Help us to practice the 2nd commandment my loving our neighbors as ourselves by offering mercy and kindness.  Help us Lord throughout our day to gaze up to you and out to others. And as each day closes, help  us always to give thanks to you for walking through our day with us and providing a way  to walk steady with confidence and joy.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
                                                Be Encouraged, Lucy
