But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and ALL these things will be added to you.Matthew 6: 33
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is there your heart will be alsoMatthew 6: 19-22
I love the part ” and ALL these things will be added to you”. I so often want the blessings and the rewards that come from righteous living and obedience to Jesus but am not always faithful to follow thru with His ways. I know the truth of “laying up for yourselves treasures in heaven” but I see things I want here on earth and certainly He must want me to have them all? Clearly there is a reward for godly living but the reward may be very different than our worldly minds imagine. Do you want to live on this earth with the things of God in mind? Did you know that prayer is the key that unlocks the doors of heaven so that God’s kingdom may come on earth as it is in heaven?
Dear Lord we thank you and praise your name. We thank you Jesus’ that as you walked this earth with a servant’s heart you modeled obedience and good character. Forgive us when we want to walk in the ways of the world and see and have a desire for the worldly rewards rather than the rewards you give us that are everlasting. Teach us how to seek first the kingdom of God by helping the poor, good stewardship, caring for the elderly and sick, forgiving, persevering in suffering, joyful giving, and leading a godly life. Help us to see and receive with grateful hearts the rewards for a righteous life. Help us Lord so that others see you thru the life we live. Help our lives reflect your heart to those who who need to follow and trust you. Dear Lord, in this toxic world where everywhere we turn there is so much uncertainty of what is going to happen next, help our gaze be upon you; the one who knows the past, present and future and will be faithful to walk with us every step of the way. Dear Lord when we stray away for a moment by your Holy Spirit draw us back into your presence where we live with eternity in mind and have the desire to store up for ourselves heavenly treasures. Thank you Jesus for loving us so much that you made a heavenly way for us. Help us to walk out your earthly plan for us each day as we journey toward heaven. In Jesus’ name, AMEN
